You are not CEO unless you do these three things
New Jeans, K-pop Album cover

As I look at recent conflicts between the K-POP Giant, Hybe which created and produced BTS as a world pop star, and Ador(you don't recognize this company name but this company is the subsidiary of Hybe and the CEO of Ador, Min produced and created rapid rising star, New Jeans as Girl group and also they collaborated with Apple commercials recently) There are significant learnings for me from these conflicts. Everyone would like to become CEO of a company and defend their executive position from other shareholders so that they can rule the company operation as king(?) This is the most stupid idea and reason to be CEO of the company. CEO is not in a position to rule the company instead serves the company employees, stock shareholders and board members. You are not CEO unless you do three things.

  • inspire the talent so that they can maximize their potential
  • nurture the talent so that they can be the next CEO of your company
  • bring more talent to your company

In the longer period, I was researching Hybe whether I invest in Hybe or not. As I look at recent conflicts, They don't have a system to nurture their talents. As you may know, the asset of an entertainment company is all about the system to nurture the talent so that those talents become pop stars. This is their intrinsic asset. If they don't have a system to nurture employees as the next core producing team and singers as pop stars and they just internally fight each other with power game? I wouldn't invest in this kind of company. This kind of company is way worse than the gang fights in the teen group.

Here are things that are clear

  • Hybe owns about 80% of shares in Ador and Min, CEO of Ador has a about 18% share of Ador company. She seemed to be trying to rule and take charge of the company using an outside private equity fund. This is the reason Hybe accuses of her being as illegal act to defend their share holding position of Ador.
  • Min said this is just gossip we just internally talked.
  • Min said Hybe copied style and design and marketing idea of New Jeans

I don't know the exact truth story of this conflict. I just wrote this article as the news media announced. But one clear thing is that they just fight against each other for their power game. This kind of company doesn't have a system to grow. From an investor's perspective, you shouldn't invest in this kind of company. The management team and CEO should focus on intrinsic value for their company and stock shareholders and board members rather than fight against each other for their power game.
